#BeInspired: “Let’s stay at it – our dreams, no matter how tall or ambitious they are, can be realized. Just Stay At It!” – Dr Ayo Akenroye

Renowned Toronto-based criminal defense lawyer and CEO/ founding partner of Akenroye LawAyo Akenroye (read more about him hereshared his amazing and inspirational journey to receiving his Ph.D. a couple of days on his social media.

Read what he wrote:

In 1996 as a naive teenager, I wrote on a file folder “Dr. Ayodele Akenroye LL.B., B.L., LL.M., Ph.D.” (all of my dream graduate degrees from fancy elite Western universities). I even dedicated the yet unwritten Ph.D. thesis to the memory of my late Grandfather who admonished me to study hard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You see, I come from a middle-class family in Nigeria but decades of military rule severely eroded that class leaving a huge chasm between the upper class and the lower class. Dreaming big doesn’t typically “belong” to the lower class incapacitated by finances and lack of access to opportunities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why am I sharing this personal story?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The naive teenager of 1996 was today awarded a Ph.D. in Law from McGill University, Canada on full academic scholarships granted to me by McGill. Also, for the last five years, I successfully ran my Law Firm in Canada.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m also sharing this story to encourage those who may be looking up to me that our dreams are valid no matter our present situations and setbacks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We must cling to our dreams with all the strengths we can muster and work very hard with a positive outlook to life and the endless possibilities it can offer us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let’s stay at it – our dreams, no matter how tall or ambitious they are, can be realized. Just Stay At It!
