20th Century Fox TV to Adapt Esi Edugyan Novel ‘Washington Black’ to limited series for TV

Television-production studio, 20th Century Fox Television in conjunction with Sterling K. Brown’s Indian Meadows ProductionsAnthony Hemingway Productions, and The Gotham Group has won an intense bidding war for the rights to bring Esi Edugyan’s award-winning novel “Washington Black” to the small screen, according to Variety

The novel will be adapted for into a limited series for TV by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, with Anthony Hemingway as the director (he has directed numerous episodes of CSI: NYTremeTrue Blood, and Shameless) and Edugyan on board as an executive producer.

Washington Black is about a boy who rises from being a slave to become a free man of the world.

The Victoria-based author who was born in Calgary to Ghanaian immigrants in 1978, has two Scotiabank Giller Prize, Canada’s most prestigious literary award for 2 of her 3 novels Washington Black and Half-Blood Blues.
