Kenya Airways to begin direct flights to United States

Kenya Airways says it will begin daily direct flights to the United States in October after years of being blocked by U.S. authorities over security concerns.

Kenya is East Africa’s economic hub but has suffered from the extremist threat posed by the al-Shabab insurgency in neighboring Somalia.

CEO Sebastian Mikosz on Thursday said ticket sales for the non-stop flights between Nairobi and New York opened with the first flight is set for Oct. 28.

Direct flights of the national carrier to the United States will create about 150 jobs at Kenya Airways and further boost tourism and trade between the two countries.
